To ensure the Core+ platform includes the latest technology updates provided by SAP, you will need to periodically update the Core+ servers with the latest Electronic Bug Fix (EBF) patch.

Where possible, we try to link a Sybase EBF patch to a specific Core+ version release, but not all Core+ releases need a Sybase EBF patch. We will therefore notify you whenever a Sybase EBF patch is required, and reference this article for further details and instructions.

What is the impact?

This introduces a minimum version dependency for Core+, so it's not possible for the Core+ upgrade to take place until the Sybase EBF patch has been applied.

All Sybase services (databases) on a given server must be stopped while the Sybase EBF patch is being applied. Core+ is backwards compatible, so the Sybase patch can be applied before the upgrade without any impact on Core+.
If there is only one database on a server, or all databases are being upgraded at the same time, the Sybase EBF patch can be applied by a member of our Technical Service team during the Core+ upgrade.

This, however, usually requires a server reboot to be completed. We recommend that the Sybase EBF patch be applied to all servers before the first upgrade, and it be done by your local IT team during the usual system downtime from 02:00 to 05:00 each day.

Available assistance

We will make the Sybase EBF patch available for you to download via SFTP.

A member of our Technical Service team will be available to assist them in setting this up if required. If required, please raise a new case online and reference the title of this article.

What do you need to do?

Download the Sybase EBF patch.

Check if Core+ servers can be rebooted during the upgrade. If a server reboot cannot be done during the Sybase EBF patch, it will need to be scheduled to coincide with routine server downtime, before the Core+ upgrade.

If the EBF patch is to be applied during the Core+ upgrade, ensure that your local IT team are available to assist throughout, as they may need to provide additional administrator access.

Ensure that all client systems with ODBC DSN connections to Core+ databases are also upgraded. We can assist with this during or before the Core+ upgrade.

What are the next steps?

Customers will be contacted by our Local Government support team with a pre-allocated date and time for their Core+ upgrade.

If the EBF patch is required, we will log a case for this work to be scheduled with your local IT team before the Core+ upgrade.

Jargon Buster

EBF

Electronic Bug Fix is the term used by SAP for updates to Sybase, which include ‘possible security vulnerabilities’ and ‘known issues’. To keep updates to a minimum, we assess each EBF and only apply those that are required.

ODBC

Open Database Connectivity is a standard application programming interface for accessing database management systems.

DSN

Data Source Name (often referred to as a Database Source Name) is used to describe a connection to a data source. Most commonly used in connection with ODBC.
