To ensure the Core+ platform includes the latest technology updates provided by SAP, you will need to periodically update the Core+ servers with the latest Crystal Assemblies patch.
Where possible, we try to link a Crystal Assemblies patch to a specific Core+ version release, but not all Core+ releases will need a Crystal Assemblies patch. We will therefore notify you whenever a patch is required and reference this article for further details and instructions.
What is the impact?
This introduces a minimum version dependency for Core+, so it will not be possible for the Core+ upgrade to take place until the Crystal Assemblies patch has been applied.

Backwards compatibility
Not all versions of the Crystal Assemblies are backwards compatible with previous versions of Core+. Therefore, the impact will vary depending on whether the Crystal Assemblies are backwards-compatible or not.
If the Crystal Assemblies are backwards compatible, the patch can be applied before the upgrade without any impact on Core+. The patch can be applied whilst Core+ is running without any downtime.
If the Crystal Assemblies are not backwards compatible, the Crystal Assemblies patch can only be applied during the Core+ upgrade without any impact on Core+.
If there is only one database on a server, or all databases are being upgraded at the same time, the Crystal Assemblies patch can be applied by a member of our Technical Service team during the Core+ upgrade.
Therefore, we recommend that the Crystal Assemblies patch be applied on all servers before the first upgrade, and that this is done by your local IT team during the usual system downtime, usually from 02:00-05:00 each day.
Installing the Crystal Assemblies patch
There are two runtimes to install, 32-bit and 64-bit.
Usually, our engineer will install these are part of the upgrade, but if you need to install them yourself, it is a simple matter of following the on-screen instructions.
