The Offence screen shows information about records linked to an offence, so you can see related activity without navigating away. This article covers the history tab, what each linked record shows, how records are linked to the offence, and the First Recorded Outcome column. The history tab and the First Recorded Outcome column both need to be enabled before they appear.
View linked records in the history tab
The Offence screen includes a tab that displays a grid of records linked to the offence. The following linked records are shown:
Hearings.
Out of Court Disposals.
Outcomes.
Contacts.
Victim Intervention.
📌 Note: Victim information is only displayed if you have the relevant Victim permissions.
Enable the history tab
To make the history tab visible, a system administrator with Screen Designer permissions needs to enable it.
⚠️ Important: You need Screen Designer permissions to complete these steps.
Go to any offence record, then click the screen designer icon in the top-right toolbar.
Right-click the tab called History.
The Tab control properties window opens.
Select the History tab from the list, then select the Visible checkbox.
Click OK.
Save the screen design, then exit Screen Designer.
Information shown for each linked record
The records shown here are the Hearing, Out of Court Disposal, Outcome, Contact, and Victim Intervention records that have been linked to the offence. Each record shows a date and a description, and some record types also show a practitioner. The following table shows what appears for each record type:
Record type | Date | Description | Practitioner |
Hearings | The hearing date. | The court name. | Not shown. |
Out of Court Disposals | The decision date. | The decision type. | Not shown. |
Outcomes | The outcome date. | The outcome description. | Not shown. |
Contacts | The contact date. | The contact type. | The contact person's name. |
Victim Intervention | The start date. | The victim's preferred name, or their full name if no preferred name is set. | The case worker. |
Each record type only appears if you have the relevant permissions and the required modules are active:
Hearings: The relevant Hearing permissions and the Youth Justice Module. The offence must be listed on the hearing record.
Out of Court Disposals: The relevant Out of Court Disposal permissions and the Youth Justice Module. The offence must be listed on the Out of Court Disposal record.
Outcomes: The relevant Outcome permissions and the Youth Justice Module. The offence must be listed on the Outcome record.
Contacts: The relevant Contact permissions and the Youth Justice Module. The offence must be listed on the Contact record.
Victim Intervention: The relevant Victim permissions, plus the Youth Justice Module and Victim module. The victim must also be listed on the offence record, with this Offence also being linked to the Victim Intervention Programme. This includes the system config 'Display name in Youth Justice section' set to True as well as having READ permission to the victims module. Without this the victim intervention link will be hidden as it cannot display the victim's name. The record must also not be shielded.
How records are linked to the offence
A record only appears in the history tab once it's linked to the offence. Hearings, Out of Court Disposals, Outcomes, and Contacts are linked to the offence directly. Victim Intervention is linked through the victim: a victim intervention programme appears here when it's linked to a victim who is associated with the offence.
Add the First Recorded Outcome column
The Offence list screen can display a First Recorded Outcome column. This shows the first outcome an offence was linked to within the current YOT Case, ordered by the Outcome Date. This saves you navigating away from the list to find the information.
You can add this column to the grid using the Grid Designer. You need the Screen Designer permission on your role to do this, as this permission controls the ability to change the grid for all users.
🤓 Tip: For help adding columns to a grid, see our Grid Designer article.
